Each rate applies only to the part of the value in that band, plus a £90 registration fee. Minimum £10.
Questions
Who pays stamp duty in Jersey?
The buyer. Freehold and flying freehold homes pay stamp duty, collected when the contract passes before the Royal Court. Share transfer flats pay land transaction tax at the same rates.
Do first-time buyers pay stamp duty in Jersey?
Nothing up to £350,000, then 1% up to £600,000. Between £600,000 and £700,000 the relief tapers away; above £700,000 the standard rate applies. You need entitled status, must live in the home, and must never have owned a home anywhere.
Is there stamp duty on a mortgage in Jersey?
Yes, 0.5% of the amount borrowed plus a £90 fee. If you'll live in the home and it's worth £700,000 or less, it's nil up to a £600,000 value and tapers up to 0.5% at £700,000.
What is the higher rate?
Buying a home that won't be your main residence, such as a buy-to-let or second home, uses higher bands: in 2026, 2 percentage points more than the standard rate in each band.
